Yinna Mountain is located in Yanyang, Meixian District, eastern Guangdong. There are many temples on the mountain. Guangling Temple, a millennium-old ancient temple at the foot of the mountain, is relatively famous. Guangling Temple was originally named Shengshou Temple. It is one of the four famous temples in Guangdong together with Guangxiao Temple in Guangzhou, Nanhua Temple in Shaoguan, and Kaiyuan Temple in Chaozhou. This temple was built in the Tang Dynasty. It is built against the mountain and has had a prosperous incense for thousands of years. There are ‘three unique features’ in Guangling Temple. The first unique feature is the ‘living and dead cypresses’. Among the two cypresses in front of the temple with a tree age of more than 1,100 years, one has been dead for more than 300 years but has not decayed and still stands upright, standing side by side with another living cypress with luxuriant branches and leaves. The second unique feature is that the green trees are lush behind the main hall, but there are never fallen leaves on the roof of the main hall. The reason is still a mystery. And the third unique feature is the ‘pineapple dome’. Most of the existing buildings of Lingshan Temple were built after the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The top of the main hall is a spiral caisson made of more than 1,000 long square timbers, commonly known as the pineapple dome. When the incense in the temple is prosperous, there is not a trace of smoke outside the temple. The smoke will spiral up along the spiral caisson and naturally diffuse. Such an exquisitely structured architectural craftsmanship is only found in two places in the country (the other is the Temple of Heaven in Beijing).
