Located 1.5 kilometers southwest of the county town of Qujiang, 18 kilometers away from Shaoguan City, Lion Rock is the site of the world-famous Maba Man and Shixia Cultural Relics.
Lion Rock consists of two elegantly shaped limestone peaks, one tall and one short, standing side by side in the north and south. From the north, it resembles a sleeping lion, while from the south, it appears as a dancing lion, hence the name Lion Rock. Inside the rock, there are numerous caves with various stalactites, stalagmites, and stone pillars.

The local Maba people represent an ancient type between Chinese apemen and modern humans. Archaeologists and artists have recreated the life scene of the Maba people 120,000 years ago inside the Silver Cave, and the life scene of the Maba New People 4,000 to 5,000 years ago inside the Osmanthus Cave. Outside the cave, there are various recreational facilities, including an antique-style ‘Wild Barbecue Cave’ and ‘Hunting Rush’, and visitors can take an antique dugout canoe to tour the lake inside the cave. The site is open all year round from 8:00 to 17:30.
