The Liu Bowen’s Hometown Scenic Area is located in Wencheng County, Zhejiang Province, a national ecological county. It covers a total area of 4.81 square kilometers and is composed of two core scenic areas: Liu Jimi Temple and Baizhangji. The ecological environment is beautiful, the cultural heritage is profound, the folk customs are rich, and the regional characteristics are distinct. It is a comprehensive tourism and leisure vacation destination where humanistic and natural landscapes complement each other and integrate multiple cultures.

Liu Jimi Temple is a wooden building complex of the Ming Dynasty with research value existing in southern Zhejiang. It was built in 1458 during the Tianshun period of the Ming Dynasty. It is a temple commemorating Liu Ji (courtesy name Bowen), the founding hero of the Ming Dynasty and a great man with ‘establishing virtue, achieving merit, and expressing wise views’. The building is spacious and ancient, with magnificent and solemn momentum.

There are plaques and couplets by famous scholars of past and present such as Zhang Taiyan, Cai Yuanpei, and Sha Menghai hanging in the temple. Wonderful brushes recall the past, paintings express longing for the distance. There are various calligraphy styles such as cursive, running script, and regular script. This is rare among domestic celebrity memorial buildings. In 2001, it was listed as a major national cultural relic protection unit.

Baizhangji gathers the waters of Nantian, the ‘sixth blessed land in the world’, to form a flying waterfall. It pours down from a high mountain cliff over 600 meters above sea level and rushes into the deep valleys and huge streams. It forms a stepped ‘three-fold’ waterfall group with a total drop of 353 meters and a single drop of 207 meters, ranking first in China. The water is like flying pearls and splashing jade, floating like gauze and condensing rainbows.

The sound is like angry thunder and raging waves, shaking the mountains and the earth, presenting a magnificent spectacle. In 2013, it was certified by the Shanghai Great World Guinness Headquarters as the ‘waterfall with the highest single drop in China’ and was also selected as one of the ‘top ten famous waterfalls in China’.
