The Zen temple is located in the east of Daxi Town and in the north of Panlang Administrative District. With Liuqing Temple as the core, it includes Maoao Mountain, Wufeng Mountain, Maoao Stream, Liuqing Temple, and Jingyun Temple, covering an area of 229 hectares. The temple was built in the third year of Tianfu in the Later Jin Dynasty (938) and has experienced several rises and falls. In 1985, Zen Master Zhu of this temple was elected as the president of the Buddhist Association of Wenling County. During his tenure as the abbot, the main hall, Heavenly Kings Hall, Sutra Depository, dining hall, and meditation room were rebuilt, and the Western Hall and Earth Store Hall were renovated. In 1989, it was approved by Taizhou Administrative Office to be open to the outside world. In 1992, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit of Wenling County. Now in this temple, there are blue tiles and yellow walls. The halls are exquisitely decorated with carved beams and painted pillars, upturned eaves and corners. The plaques and couplets are all written by contemporary famous masters. It also collects the couplets and handwritings of famous figures such as Li Hongzhang, Lu Runxiang, He Shaoji, Yu Changlin, and Fan Dingsan from the Qing Dynasty, as well as the handwritings of famous monk Liaosheng and the Tripitaka. Inside the three gates are three thousand-year-old camphor trees. The trees are three or four people’s armfuls in girth, with luxuriant branches and leaves. Dodder vines are trailing, covering several mu, and they are the treasures of the temple. Dozens of pine trees, camphor trees, and magnolia trees that require several people to encircle are planted around the perimeter wall. The branches and leaves stretch out horizontally, casting a thick shade. Behind the temple is a continuous mixed forest of coniferous and broad-leaved trees, lush and green. Maoao Stream flows eastward around the three gates.
