The Longchuanxia Scenic Area is located in Baihe Town. It is a scenic spot developed relatively late in Tiantai. It is not as famous as Guoqing Temple and Qiongtai Fairy Valley. The scenery featuring waterfalls and canyons is not inferior at all. The dam and reservoir on the top of the mountain are also impressive. The winding suspended plank road, exciting zip line and slide are all experiences close to nature.
Compared with the steep mountain road of Qiongtai Fairy Valley, the footpath in Longchuanxia is much easier to walk. There is only one entrance and exit. Walking clockwise along the circular footpath can view all the scenery in turn without retracing one’s steps. The scenic area divides the scenery into 10 parts. It is worth noting that Xiuxi Watching Waterfall, Five Waterfalls Flowing Spring, Taibai Facing the Wind, Longchuan Breaking the Wall and Tianchi Bathing in Emerald. Entering the scenic area, the first thing that catches the eye is a covered bridge named ‘Taiyue Chunqiu Pavilion’. Standing on the bridge, you can view the Sima Waterfall flowing down from the more than 80-meter cliff from a distance. The Xuanke Ping opposite the covered bridge is a large platform. There are small shops where you can replenish some dry food. To the left from here is Xiuxi Valley and the steps leading up the mountain. The major attraction in Xiuxi Valley is the Sima Waterfall. Tourists can walk along the footpath by the stream to get close to the waterfall at the bottom. Near the ground of the waterfall, a row of eaves are built, forming a small ‘Water Curtain Cave’. Some tourists walk under the eaves with umbrellas. It is even cooler in summer. Continuing forward is the area of Five Waterfalls Flowing Spring. The total drop of this waterfall is more than 100 meters. The slender water flow is divided into five folds and falls down layer by layer against the cliff. From bottom to top are: Liaoling Waterfall – Ziyang Waterfall – Lingbao Waterfall – Baihe Waterfall – Xiaoxiang Waterfall. They have different shapes and all have a bit of Taoist elegance. Tourists can climb up along the plank road between the cliffs and visit the first four waterfalls in turn. At the end of the plank road is the third area ‘Taibai Facing the Wind’. Some allusions related to Li Bai are quoted here. There are not many attractions in itself, but it is the best viewing platform in Longchuanxia. Standing on any platform here, you can see a very open view. Passing Fairy Rock is a valley full of乱石. Some stones are artificially decorated and become more pictographic with facial features. Going upstream against the stream, you can hear the roar of Longchuan Waterfall from afar. It is also the most spectacular waterfall in the scenic area. Both the drop and the water volume are surprising. Some tourists even think it is better than the Dalongqiu and Xiaolongqiu in Yandang. Tourists can walk up close to the waterfall to enjoy it. Walking all the way to the dam on the top of the mountain can capture the panorama of Longchuan Waterfall and even the entire canyon. On a fine day, you can also see the rainbow refracted by the water mist. The dam is the last attraction in Longchuanxia. Walking on the footpath on the top of the dam, on the left is the panorama of the waterfall and canyon, and on the right is the sparkling surface of the Tianchi Lake. You can enjoy the scenery and take a rest here. Take a bamboo raft to enjoy the scenery on the lake. Those who are bold can also experience crossing the lake in the air by zip line.On the other side of the lake lies the leisure and entertainment area. Following the footpath down the mountain will lead you back to the entrance. The downhill journey offers no remarkable scenery and the path is not easy to traverse. However, one can opt for a fun and effortless ride on the slide directly to Xia Ke Ping at the foot of the mountain. The cableway, slide, and bamboo raft lake sightseeing tickets are all priced at 30 yuan each, with a certain discount for purchasing a package ticket.
