Longevity Zen Temple is a significant religious site on Xiushan Island, well-known in the eastern Zhejiang region. Nestled amidst lush green mountains, a cluster of ancient buildings with yellow walls and green tiles stands as the ‘Ancient Longevity Hermitage’. The temple is arranged in three parallel sections, with three main halls along the central axis. The front hall is the Hall of the Heavenly Kings, and the main hall is the Mahavira Hall, which houses the primary Buddha, Shakyamuni, flanked by the Buddha of Amitabha and the Medicine Buddha, all in standing postures. Behind the hall, there are three stupas made of Wenling agate, containing the relics of three generations of Longevity Hermitage’s patriarchs. The stupas are not tall, with a round body and pointed top, appearing exquisite and solemn under the embrace of green mountains and trees. Surrounded by Orchid Fragrance in the mountains and with prayers for longevity in front of the hermitage, many visitors come from afar to burn incense and kowtow, seeking a Buddhist connection with this ancient hermitage. Open all year round from 8:00 to 17:00.
