The Zeng’s Grand Ancestral Temple in Guangzhou is a Han ethnic ancestral temple building built in the Ming Dynasty. It belongs to a place for Han people to worship ancestors and sages. It was rebuilt during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. Facing east from west, it has five entrances and covers an area of more than 900 square meters. It is located in Longgang Village, Zhongluotan Town, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, also known as Zhuiyuan Hall. According to the genealogy records, the Zeng surname in Longgang Village is a descendant of Zengzi. The name Zhuiyuan Hall comes from Zengzi’s words ‘Chasing the distant ones, people’s virtues will return to kindness’. The first entrance has three bays in width and depth. There are gray-plastic double dragons on the tile ridge. The dragon bodies face the ridge ends and the dragon heads look back at the precious beads. The stone plaque of ‘Zeng’s Grand Ancestral Temple’ was made later during the restoration. There are brick carvings on the pilasters. The red sandstone door pillow is carved with stone lions and grass dragons. The dragon body is in the style of the Ming Dynasty. The camel hump on the rear beam is engraved with Ruyi patterns with simple lines. The entire wall foundation stones and octagonal rear eaves columns of the central bay wall are all made of red sandstone, indicating that it is relatively old. The second entrance is a granite four-column and three-bay archway with brick-carved curly leaf-shaped dougong. The archway plaque is inscribed with ‘imperial physician of Fengyi rank’. There are two characters ‘Enrong’ above. The third entrance has three bays with a width of 13.9 meters and three intervals with a depth of 10.2 meters. The gold columns are connected and imitated with finely carved dragons and phoenixes. The fourth entrance has three bays and two intervals in depth. There is a courtyard and two corridors in front. Open all year round and open all day. The specific opening hours are subject to the on-site announcements of the scenic area.
