Longgui Temple, originally built during the Song Dynasty, is located at the foot of Niuxin Mountain, facing the Shui Tianchi Lake. It is said that at the beginning of the temple’s construction, a real dragon descended to the world and coiled around the thousand-year-old osmanthus tree within the temple, hence the name ‘Longgui Temple’.

The temple used to have a quadrangle layout with two layers of halls, wooden architecture, painted beams and carved rafters, high ridges, and flying eaves, serving as the residence for monks and nuns.

After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, the temple buildings were transformed into classrooms for Tianchi Village Primary School. In 1994, the People’s Government of Bishan County issued a document approving the restoration of the Longgui ancient temple. Local benefactors invested in repairing the dilapidated Longgui Temple and successively rebuilt the Mahavira Hall, and added the Guanyin Hall and the Thousand Buddhas Hall.
