The Longgupo Paleoanthropological Site is located in Longgupo, Longping Village, Miaoyu Town, Wushan County. It covers an area of about 700 square meters and was excavated in 1986. Here, we have discovered fossil incisors and jawbones with canines of ancient humans, as well as dozens of fossils of giant monkeys, saber-toothed tigers, and biauriculate rhinoceroses on the same level as human fossils. After research and verification, these fossils are 2.04 million years old. This significant discovery fills the gap in early human fossils in China and has extremely important scientific value for the study of human origin and the developmental history of the Three Gorges Valley.
