Longmen Jilang, situated at Longmen Mountain on the seashore of Emang Town in Danzhou City, is a rocky mountain with a dramatic coastline. The mountain is renowned for its strange rocks that create a majestic and magnificent landscape when viewed from north to south. The north wind, lifting the waves against the stone gate, produces a sound akin to a drum that echoes for more than 10 miles, thus earning the name ‘Longmen Jilang’. The name originated in the Ming Dynasty and has since been a source of wonder for tourists. A former tribute scholar from the late Qing Dynasty captured the essence of the place in a seven-character quatrain:

“The steep rocks of Longmen are lofty and majestic. Looking from afar, the tide comes and rolls up white waves. Don’t just say that it is as difficult as the Sichuan Road. There are still many dangerous roads in my hometown.”

This poem encapsulates both the scenery and the emotions, offering a thought-provoking reflection on the landscape. The 4-kilometer-long coastline surrounding Longmen Jilang boasts pristine beaches and huge, uniquely shaped rocks that add to the area’s distinctive beauty. Standing atop these rocks to watch the waves is a refreshing experience, making it a renowned tourist attraction in Hainan Province.

Adjacent to the Yangpu Development Zone, Longmen Jilang’s popularity is growing as the area develops. The increasing number of visitors and the expanding reputation of this scenic spot are testament to its allure.Related legend: According to legend, a long time ago, there was a plowshare stone here. It was impacted by the waves all year round and shoveled away the stones on the sea ridge. Therefore, Longmen has a towering shape. There is a hole in its wall that leads to Naxiling and can accommodate hundreds of people to walk. According to ‘Danzhou County Annals’, after the failure of the uprising of the Li ethnic group leaders organizing the Li and Han disaster victims in the Ming Dynasty, the remnants of the rebel army once guarded here, ‘appearing suddenly on the mountain and then in the sea’, mysteriously, and fought with the officers and soldiers for more than ten years.
