Longyan Ancient Temple is located on the hillside of Guanyin Mountain in Dapeng Town, originally built during the Tongzhi era of the Qing Dynasty (1862-1874), and was renovated in the 34th year of the Guangxu period (1908). The name ‘Longyan’ originates from a peculiarly large rock on the hillside. This rock, 3 meters thick and over 20 meters in diameter, juts out from the valley, curving upward like an emerging dragon, hence the name ‘Longyan’. Subsequent generations built the temple on top of the rock and named it ‘Longyan Ancient Temple’, which is its unique feature. Another distinctive feature of the temple is the spring water in front of the large rock, which has flowed continuously for centuries, tasting sweet and refreshing, known locally as ‘Fairy Water’. Interestingly, anyone wishing to collect ‘Fairy Water’ must kneel to obtain it. Longyan Ancient Temple is nestled in the shade of flowers and trees on the hillside, with a tranquil and elegant environment, and is uniquely constructed against the mountain and rocks, harmonizing with nature. Due to legends of the appearance of Guanyin Bodhisattva, the temple has maintained its perpetual light and continuous incense for over a hundred years. During the Anti-Japanese War, the Eastern Army Hospital was once stationed here. At the end of 1993, a nearly 10-meter-tall statue of Guanyin was built at the Yangsheng Pond, and a pagoda over 4 meters high was constructed in front of the temple gate. Now, a cement road has been built, allowing direct access by car to the temple. Open from 1/1 to 12/31 from 09:00 to 17:00.
