The Lotus Pond, originally known as Small Lotus Pond and Small Square Pot, has a rich history dating back to 1876. It was during the second year of the Guangxu reign in the Qing Dynasty when brothers Ding Shen and Ding Bing excavated and constructed the pond as part of the Bamboo Pavilion’s relocation and construction project. The pond saw a period of inactivity when it was filled in 1953, but it was given new life in 1979 when it was dredged again.
At the heart of the pond stands a rockery, which bears the inscription ‘Lotus Spring’ by the calligrapher Li Fuyu. The water within the pond is remarkably clear, providing a vibrant habitat for golden carps that swim playfully about. The pond’s beauty is further enhanced by the seasonal blooms of summer lotuses and winter plums, which create an intriguing contrast.
Visitors are welcome to enjoy the Lotus Pond at any time of the day, every day of the year. However, please be aware that the specific business status may vary depending on the day’s circumstances.
