Lotus Square

On December 20, 1999, the day Macao returned to the motherland. The large bronze gilded sculpture ‘Flourishing Lotus’, presented by the State Council of China, was unveiled at the Lotus Square in front of the Macao Cultural Centre. Thus, this place has become a commemorative scenic spot for Macao’s return. The main body of ‘Flourishing Lotus’ consists of a flower stalk, petals and stamens. There are 16 shapes in total. It is cast in bronze and gilded on the surface, weighing 6.5 tons. The base is composed of 23 pieces of red granite stacked on top of each other. The total height of the sculpture is 6 meters, and the larger diameter of the flower part is 3.6 meters. The lotus is the regional flower of the Macao Special Administrative Region. The lotus is in full bloom, gracefully erect and rising gradually, symbolizing the eternal prosperity of Macao. The base stacked with three layers of red granite is shaped like lotus leaves, implying the three islands of Macao. Opening hours: open all day throughout the year. The specific business status is subject to the opening situation on that day.
