Lovers’ Rock is located in the southwest of Shengshan Scenic Area, surrounded by the sea on three sides and backed by mountains, making it one of the most remarkable stone formations in Shengsi. Two towering boulders stand tall, with the taller one wearing a pine hat and leaning slightly forward, resembling a fisherman about to set sail, bidding a tender farewell to his newlywed wife. It symbolizes the lovers’ reunion, the reluctance to part, the bride’s longing, and the yearning gaze. In the island fishing village, ‘Lovers’ Rock’ conveys the deep yearning and the hardship of waiting for fishermen’s wives. In the past, going to sea for fishing was a life-threatening endeavor for fishermen, with the three-foot boat serving as a mother’s room and the three-foot sea outside as a gateway to the underworld. Fishermen’s wives stood on the shore, waiting anxiously for their husbands’ safe return. Consequently, there are many reefs in Shengshan resembling fisherwomen, known as ‘Wife-Waiting Rocks’. The opening hours are subject to the actual operating conditions on the day.
