Lu Xun’s Ancestral Residence

Lu Xun’s ancestral residence, also known as ‘Zhou Family’s Old Gate Tower’, faces south and has a history of 250 years. It is one of the relatively well-preserved Qing Dynasty buildings in Shaoxing so far. The entire gate tower covers an area of nearly 3,000 square meters and is a typical residence of an official family in the south of the Yangtze River. It consists of four sections: the gate tower entrance, the hall, the ancestral shrine, and the back building. There are wing buildings on the east and west sides. During Lu Xun’s time in Shaoxing, whenever there was a festival or the anniversary of an ancestor’s death, he would definitely go to the old gate tower to pay his respects and visit.
