The Lu Yu Ancient Path, also known as the Xiamu Mountain Ancient Path, begins at the picturesque Xiamu Mountain Reservoir. With its many twists and turns, and beautiful scenery, it is an excellent choice for outdoor hiking. This ancient path, which has been in existence for thousands of years, was also a necessary route for monks to ascend and descend the mountain. Xiamu Mountain, a remnant of the Tianmu Mountain range, is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Huzhou, belonging to both Wuxing District and Changxing County. The Ming Chongzhen Chronicles record: ‘Climbing up the rugged high path, one can see Taihu Lake, with all mountains beneath, often shrouded in clouds and rosy mist, hence the name.’ With an elevation of 560 meters, Xiamu Mountain was once covered with lush forests, tall bamboos, clear streams, and rapid currents, offering fresh air and pleasant scenery. On the mountain peak lies the Xiamu Spring, known as ‘Heavenly Lake,’ and at the foot of the mountain, there are several reservoirs including Xiamu Mountain Reservoir, Gufeng Reservoir, Shi Chuanwu Reservoir, and Ding Niangling Reservoir. It has been historically praised as having ‘the scenery of Moganshan and the waters of Xiamu Mountain.’ Xiamu Mountain is home to numerous mountain reservoirs and the Xiamu Spring, known as ‘Heavenly Lake,’ which is famous for producing Xiafeng Sweet Spring Water; the Xiawu Tea has faded over time due to historical changes, but now, with the extensive cultivation of white tea on Xiamu Mountain, tea production is thriving, and Xiafeng Cloud and Mist Tea is abundant. In China, there has always been a saying that good water complements good tea, hence Xiafeng Sweet Spring Water and Xiafeng Cloud and Mist Tea are collectively known as the ‘Xiafeng Double Wonders.’ The area is open all year round, accessible 24 hours a day.
