Lufeng Ginkgo Trees

There are two Lufeng ginkgo trees, a male and a female pair. Originally, they were part of the cemetery of Censor Lu Bang. One tree is planted on the northeast side of Lu Bang’s grandfather’s tomb, and the other is by the water on the southwest side. Planted in the Hongwu period of the Ming Dynasty, they are more than 600 years old. The old trunks of the ginkgo trees are graceful and the branches and leaves are lush.

The site is now Yu’s Lane under Nanpeng in Xitang. The tomb is now untraceable, leaving only the stone figures and horses around the tomb and these two old ginkgo trees. Lu Bang is from Xitang. He served as a dutang. He is an honest official and knowledgeable. He was once the teacher of Zhao Wenhua, the imperial censor of Ming Dynasty. It is said that Lu Bang’s residence was built with the surplus city bricks when Zhao Wenhua supervised the construction of Jiashan city wall.
