Lugou Bridge: A Historical Landmark Spanning Over 800 Years

Lugou Bridge

The Lugou Bridge is 266.5 meters in length and can be traversed in just 10 minutes. However, it holds over 800 years of history.

Stone Lions

The exquisitely carved stone lions on the bridge were praised by Marco Polo. Each stone lion has a unique posture. They are differentiated by gender, with females playing with their cubs and males tossing a brocade ball. Some large lions have numerous small lions carved on their bodies. The smaller ones are only a few centimeters long, with some peeking out with just half a head or an open mouth. This has led to the saying that ‘the number of lions on the Lugou Bridge is innumerable’. You can come here to count them for yourself.

‘Lugou Dawn Moon’

During the Ming and Qing dynasties, ‘Lugou Dawn Moon’ was one of the famous ‘Eight Sights of Yanjing’ in Beijing. If you visit around the Mid-Autumn Festival, you can pay attention to the moon-viewing activities held annually by the scenic area.

Attractions at the Eastern End

The eastern end of the Lugou Bridge is the Wanping City. Here, you can visit attractions such as the Sculpture Garden and the Stone Drum Garden.
