On the small hill to the northeast of Luojia Mountain stands a lighthouse, known as the legendary ‘Luojia Lights’! Built during the Ming Dynasty’s Wanli era, it initially served as a celestial lantern platform, guiding ships to and from for centuries. It was once one of the twelve scenic spots of Putuo in ancient times. The ancients praised it as ‘A single glimmer lights the way, its light outshining the sun and moon of Mount Sumeru’. There’s no need for the sun and moon when traversing mountains and seas, for this small light is more than enough! Today, the celestial lantern platform has been transformed into an international lighthouse. At night, on the Zhoushan fishing ground in front of the lighthouse, fishing boats with their mast lights shine brightly, reflecting the lighthouse’s beam, illuminating the sea and sky to create a spectacular sight.
The lighthouse is open all year round and is accessible 24/7, with only exterior visits allowed.
