Lupu Bridge spans the Huangpu River between Luwan District on the north bank and Pudong New Area on the south bank, with its name derived from the abbreviations of these two districts. The bridge is 3,900 meters long, with the main arch bridge measuring 550 meters and the arch top rising 100 meters above the river surface. The main bridge of Lupu Bridge is made entirely of steel, featuring an elegant arc shape, resembling a rainbow lying on the waves. The design incorporates three different types of bridge construction techniques: cable-stayed bridge, arch bridge, and suspension bridge.
Like Sydney Harbour Bridge in Australia, Lupu Bridge also serves as a tourist attraction. Its observation platform is located at the top of the giant arch ribs, not only providing a higher vantage point for sightseeing but also requiring visitors to climb over 300 steps along the ‘slope’ of the arch ribs, adding fun, exercise, and sightseeing value. Visitors can take high-speed sightseeing elevators directly to the 50-meter-high bridge deck of Lupu Bridge, then ascend the pedestrian walkway along the arch ribs, climbing approximately 280 meters on the ‘giant bow’ to reach the 100-meter-high arch rib top. Standing on the observation platform, the size of a basketball court, one can overlook the beautiful scenery of the Pujiang River.
Opening times are from 10:00 to 16:00 all year round, with additional hours from 8:30 to 17:00. For specific opening times, please refer to the public notice at the scenic spot.
