Maitreya Rock, also known as Ruiyan Mountain, is located in Niuzhai Village, Haokou Town, Fuqing City, approximately 10 kilometers from the county town. Historically referred to as ‘Ruiyan Dan Cave’, it is a scenic area renowned for its harmonious blend of cultural and natural landscapes. The rock features jagged peaks that stand, lie, hang, separate, or combine, presenting a myriad of enchanting forms that leave visitors in awe.
At the foot of Maitreya Rock, a towering Maitreya stone Buddha sits cross-legged. The statue, carved from a single block of granite, began in the Yuan Zhizheng year (AD 1341) and was completed in the Ming Hongwu year (AD 1368). It stands 6.8 meters tall and 8.9 meters wide, with a natural and exquisite appearance, baring its chest and exposing its belly, with ears touching its shoulders, and a smile that is truly heartwarming, allowing viewers to forget their worries. Recognized by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, the stone Buddha has been included in the list of national cultural heritage protection units. The site is open year-round from 7:30 to 18:30.
