The mangroves in Zhuhai are mainly distributed on Qi’ao Island, Hengqin Island and the west embankment of Hongqi. Among them, the wetland area in Taiwei Bay in the northwest of Qi’ao Island is relatively large. It is currently a well-preserved, contiguous forest area in the city, with trees 4-6 meters high. It is not only a resource of Zhuhai City, but also a mangrove wetland in the Pearl River Delta.
At the same time, it is one of the rare mangrove areas close to a big city in China. The Qi’ao Mangrove Reserve is located in the northwest of Qi’ao Island. The reserve has 695 species of vascular plants and 347 species of wild animals. Among them, there are 15 true mangrove species and 9 semi-mangrove species. The mangroves growing on the beach are not only the marine forest for windbreak and sand fixation and wave protection, but also a good place for birds and marine life to inhabit and reproduce. It is also one of the three major migratory routes of migratory birds in China. In autumn and winter, tens of thousands of migratory birds of more than 90 species inhabit here.Opening hours: From October 8 to March 31, open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 to 18:00; From April 1 to October 7, open on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 09:00 to 18:00.
