Matou Mountain

According to expert examination, Matou Mountain’s Danxia landform is formed from red rock series deposited during the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, which are inland basin deposits of red clastic rocks. The preserved rock layers constitute red mountain blocks, commonly referred to as ‘red sandstone’. A prominent feature of the Danxia landform is the widespread development of ‘Red Cliffs and Red Cliffs’, forming square mountains, stone walls, stone peaks, and stone pillars with flat tops, steep bodies, and gentle slopes, creating a unique and perilous landscape. The variously shaped rocks form a highly ornamental landscape, making it a true ‘Red Stone Park’.
