Mazu is located in the northwest of the Taiwan Strait and is composed of more than 20 islands of various sizes, such as Nangan, Beigan, Dongyin, and Juguang.
Every year when spring turns into summer, a wonderful phenomenon appears on the Mazu coast: under the lashing of the night waves, fluorescent blue dots keep emerging. The entire coastline looks like a sea of sapphire stars, just like a scene from the movie “Life of Pi”. Thus, people call it the “Blue Tear”.

The “Blue Tear” spectacle has been listed by CNN as one of the 15 natural wonders in the world. It has the reputation of “the Light of Taiwan” and has triggered a “Blue Tear chasing” boom in recent spring and summer.

The Blue Tear often appears in Nangan and Juguang among the four townships and five islands, and is also common in Daqiu of Beigan.
