Mei Li Zhou Church, a modern Chinese interpretation of the place name ‘Liang Zhu’, embodies four layers of meaning. First, it is a poetic interpretation of Liang Zhu. Second, the church itself is indeed very beautiful. Third, it represents a spiritual aspiration for a beautiful life built by the church here. Fourth, it is an expression of gratitude to God, as reflected in Psalm 16:6 from the Union Version of the Bible: “The lines have fallen to me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.”
Constructed in 2010 and designed by a Japanese architect, Mei Li Zhou Church exhibits an elegant and natural, yet simple and generous temperament. The main building, shaped like the number ‘eight’, combines the traditional Chinese ‘hard mountain’ roof style with advanced religious architectural design concepts from abroad, offering a sense of tranquility and spiritual belonging. The bell tower in the square stands 12 meters high, with a 3-meter cross on top. Drivers passing by on the adjacent national highway can locate Mei Li Zhou Church through the bell tower’s small view. The bell at the top is custom-made by an Italian clock factory.
Inside, the chairs in Mei Li Zhou Church feature a 90-degree backrest, encouraging people to sit upright unconsciously. The angel wing design on both sides of the pews adds a sense of purity and sanctity to the church. The church is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 to 17:00, and is closed all day on Mondays.
