Mei Li Zhou is a fitting modern Chinese interpretation of the place name ‘Liang Zhu’. The local church, named after ‘Mei Li Zhou’, carries four layers of meaning: ‘First, it is a poetic interpretation of Liang Zhu; second, the church is indeed beautiful; third, it represents a spiritual hope for the church to build a beautiful life here; fourth, it is a gratitude to God – Psalm 16:6 from the Union Version of the Bible: ‘The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage.

‘ Constructed in 2010, the church, designed by a Japanese architect, exudes an elegant and natural charm, simple yet grand. The main building takes the shape of the numeral ‘eight’, combining the traditional Chinese ‘hard mountain’ roof style with advanced international religious architectural design concepts, providing a sense of tranquility and spiritual belonging. The bell tower in the square stands at 12 meters high, supporting a 3-meter cross, making it easily noticeable to those passing by on the adjacent national highway.

The bell at the top is custom-made by an Italian clock factory. The church’s chairs are also ingeniously designed, with a 90-degree backrest that encourages a proper posture, and the angel wing design on the sides of the pews adds a sense of purity and sanctity to the church. Mei Li Zhou Church is open to the public all year round, from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; it is closed all day on Mondays.
