Meishan Temple is located at the foot of Meishan Mountain, about one li east of Tong’an City. It is nestled against the mountain and beside the water, small and delicate. It stands across the stream from Fantian Temple on Dalun Mountain and the newly built Tong’an Film and Television City.
The ancient name of Meishan Mountain was “Tongshan”. The mountain is not high but precipitous. It serves as a natural barrier for Tongyi. Moreover, it is the basis for the naming of “Datong Field” established in the late Tang Dynasty and “Tong’an County” established in the Western Jin Dynasty.

Meishan Mountain features beautiful scenery, dense forests, steep rock walls, and auspicious plum blossoms. Standing at a high place and looking into the distance, one can enjoy a broad view. Scenes such as Yincheng, Xunhai, and Meiren Mountain come into full view.

On the rock wall at the southern foot of the mountain behind the temple, there is a cliff carving of the two characters “Tongshan” handwritten by Zhu Xi in the Song Dynasty. The handwriting is vigorous and elegant. The grottoes on Meishan Mountain are vivid.

At the top of the mountain, there is a “Meiting Pavilion” and a “Meiyuan Garden”. The stone of monkeys listening to scriptures is lifelike. Scenes such as the Listening-to-the-Waves Pine on the northeast side are all very fascinating.
