Mengqing Cliff Bridge is located in Yantai Mountain Scenic Area. It is named after its location beside ‘Mengqing Cliff’ of Yantai Mountain.
Regarding Mengqing Cliff, there is a mythological legend. A long time ago, there was a young couple in free love. Opposed by their parents and relatives, they agreed to commit suicide here. Unexpectedly, they were separated by this cliff. Just when they were at a loss, the tide was dragging a wooden board and floating towards the cliff between them. A wooden bridge was set up between the two cliffs. They rushed to the center of the bridge and hugged each other, vowing never to be separated in this life. Thus, they gave up the idea of suicide. And every year, they come here to worship the sea god in pairs. Mengqing Cliff is thus named. This suspension bridge symbolizing ‘connected hearts’ has since become a sacred place for young men and women to love each other and lock in their lifelong commitments.
