Baihua Mountain Nature Reserve in Mentougou

Baihua Mountain Nature Reserve is approximately 120 kilometers away from downtown Beijing, making it conveniently accessible by car. The scenic area is primarily known for its natural beauty, offering hiking and mountain climbing amidst forests and sea of clouds, allowing visitors to breathe in the fresh air deeply and freely. At the summit, there is a meadow filled with various wildflowers that bloom vibrantly in the summer, creating a picturesque scene ideal for photography.

It is important to note that Baihua Mountain Nature Reserve in Mentougou shares its name with another scenic area in Fangshan. Additionally, many tourists may confuse it with the Fangshan Baicao Border Scenic Area and the Yesanpo Baicao Border Scenic Area. In reality, all these scenic areas are located within the Baihua Mountain range, which has a main peak on both the Beijing and Hebei sides. The Baihua Mountain Nature Reserve in Mentougou belongs to the main peak on the Beijing side, and both the Fangshan Baicao Border Natural Scenic Area and Fangshan Baihua Mountain Scenic Area are also located on this peak.

This means that three scenic areas charge fees on three sides of a single mountain peak, and they are interconnected at the summit. The famous wildflower meadow can be reached from any of these three scenic areas. In contrast, the Yesanpo Baicao Border Scenic Area is located on the Hebei side and is a separate scenic area, not connected to the other three. The alpine meadow of Yesanpo is a different concept and should be distinguished before visiting.

The tour of Mentougou Baihua Mountain is relatively straightforward. After entering the scenic area, visitors begin to climb the mountain (the original cableway has been abandoned), which takes about 2-3 hours to reach the wildflower meadow at the summit. After exploring, visitors simply descend the mountain, and the entire scenic area can be toured in about half a day. The climbing route mainly consists of stone steps and wooden plank roads, with many birch forests and pine trees along the way, providing a beautiful environment.

Breathing the fresh air of nature during the ascent is a pleasant experience. There are also scenic spots such as Songting Sunset and Changling Pine Waves, which are mainly beautiful forests, pavilions, and handsome ridges that can be enjoyed during the climb. In the autumn, the mountain is adorned with red leaves, making it a less crowded place to appreciate the fall foliage in Beijing.

Upon reaching the summit area, the highlight is the wildflower meadow. From June to August each year, wildflowers bloom on the grassland, covering the ground with a colorful array of flowers, creating a stunning view that is perfect for sightseeing and photography. In the autumn, the area turns golden, presenting a particularly beautiful landscape. Additionally, the summit often features sea of clouds and other natural spectacles, offering opportunities for photography.

However, the local farmers are warm and simple, and visitors can taste local farmhouse cuisine, making it a great place to experience rural life.
