The Chinese People’s Revolution Military Museum, hereinafter referred to as ‘Military Museum’, is the first comprehensive military museum in China, located at No. 9 Fuxing Road, Beijing. The exhibition building was constructed in October 1958, completed in July 1959, and officially opened on August 1, 1960, as one of the top ten buildings dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.


In September 2012, the Military Museum underwent reinforcement and renovation of the exhibition building, which was completed in July 2017. After the reinforcement and renovation, the building area of the exhibition hall reached 153,000 square meters, with 43 exhibition halls (areas) and an exhibition area of nearly 59,000 square meters. The main building stands at 94.7 meters high, with four floors on both the north and south sides, and a huge People’s Liberation Army emblem of the People’s Republic of China with a diameter of 6 meters on the rooftop.



The Military Museum is primarily engaged in the collection, research, and display of cultural relics, objects, documents, and materials that reflect the course of military struggles led by the Communist Party of China and the achievements in the construction of the People’s Army, as well as cultural relics, objects, documents, and materials that reflect the 5,000-year military history of the Chinese nation and the world military history.


It organizes various thematic, current affairs, and commemorative exhibitions around the central work of the Party, the state, and the military. It receives visits from domestic and foreign guests and audiences and organizes relevant academic research and artistic creation. It also organizes business exchanges with museums at home and abroad. It has ten middle-level units under its jurisdiction, including the Comprehensive Office, Editorial Research Office, Publicity and Education Office, Design and Art Office, Collection and Preservation Office, Cultural Relics Protection Office, Information and Materials Office, Security Office, Tongzhou Branch, and Huairou Branch.


It also has an Academic Committee, an Art Committee, and a Cultural Relics Appraisal Committee.



The museum is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00; it is closed all day on Mondays; and during New Year’s Day, Spring Festival, Qingming Festival, Labor Day, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, and National Day, it is open from 09:00 to 17:00. Service facilities include luggage storage and stroller rental, with reference prices being free.
