Ming Dynasty City Wall Relics Park

Ming Dynasty City Wall Relics Park is located near Chongwenmen Street in Beijing, adjacent to Beijing Railway Station, and is an urban park centered around the relatively well-preserved Ming Dynasty city walls in Beijing.

The park features a Ming Dynasty city wall that stretches for over a kilometer, surrounded by lawns, green spaces, and a variety of trees, flowers, and plants.

Many visitors enjoy morning exercises and leisurely strolls on the park’s green spaces, appreciating the beautiful environment. Climbing the city wall offers views of some Ming Dynasty relics and simple cultural exhibitions.

The park is currently less crowded, making it an ideal spot for tourists who prefer a quiet visit to Beijing’s historical sites. The outer green spaces are popular among local residents for morning exercises, with many trees, flowers, and plants planted against the backdrop of the city wall, creating a very beautiful environment.

Among the notable features are the circle of plum trees at the foot of the city wall. Every March, the plum blossoms bloom against the city wall, a beautiful sight that attracts many visitors for photography and sketching.

In addition, there are historical sites such as the Jing-Feng Railway signal station and train ticket holes, offering a glimpse into the old railway and station ruins, which can be briefly visited.

The city wall within the park is one of the best-preserved Ming Dynasty city walls in Beijing (others have been lost) and is one of the oldest symbols of the city.

The city wall is approximately 1.5 kilometers long, with the main area for visitors being about 200 meters on the east side and the Southeast Corner Tower, while the west side is an unrestored wall, revealing the yellow earth of the rammed foundation, giving it a primitive and simple appearance, suitable only for a brief visit.

On the east side of the city wall, visitors can see relics from the Ming Dynasty such as flagpole stones and ancient cannons, as well as inscriptions on the city wall from the time of the Eight-Nation Alliance’s invasion of Beijing, all of which hold historical value and are worth seeing.

Inside the Southeast Corner Tower, there are exhibitions of historical relics, including old cannons, city tower photographs, and modern Beijing photography and painting art exhibitions, all of which can be visited to understand the history and present of Beijing.

The park is open all year round from Tuesday to Sunday from 08:30 to 19:30; closed all day on Mondays.
