Mo Yan’s former residence, constructed in 1912, underwent renovation in 1966 and is currently unoccupied. The old house is a set of five earth-walled flat rooms, totaling over 60 square meters, with the main entrance facing south. Inside, you can still find some old items that Mo Yan used decades ago. There is an east-west oriented earth wall over a meter high, and in front of the door, there is a courtyard covering an area of about one hundred square meters, where soybeans and carrots are planted.

Since Mo Yan was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2012, not only has the ‘Shandong Gaomi Township’ depicted in his novels become more well-known to readers worldwide, but his former residence in Ping’an Village, Dalan Township, Gaomi City, Shandong, has also become a new tourist attraction for domestic visitors. It is open all year round from 8:00 to 18:00.
