In order to explore the cultural connotations of the belief in the Dragon King of the South China Sea from the Taoist cultural system and to express the Dragon King’s benevolence and blessings to the people, the Nanhai Dragon King’s Courtyard has been constructed within the Da Xiao Dongtian tourist area. The courtyard is located in the heart of Ao Mountain, facing the South China Sea. Inside, a 1.9-meter statue of the Dragon King of the South China Sea stands, which is described as having a “crown on its head with dragon horns, red hair and long beard, thick eyebrows and wise eyes, ears hanging on the shoulders, a tiger nose and vermilion lips, dragon whiskers extending outwards, a benevolent and majestic appearance, wearing dragon scale golden armor, draped in a dragon patterned cloak, holding a sea-quelling sword, treading on two snakes, and sitting majestically on the crest of the waves in the heart of the sea.” It serves to protect the territory, command respect at the maritime borders, harmonize yin and yang, nourish all things, and bring rain to benefit the world. The opening hours and specific business status are subject to the day’s opening conditions.
