Nanjiang Reservoir project commenced construction in December 1969 and was completed in November 1972. The reservoir underwent expansion and reinforcement in 1990, with the completion in April 1994. The main structure of the reservoir consists of a mortar-rubble gravity dam, a power generation water diversion tunnel, and a post-dam power station equipped with 2×1250 and 1×2000 kilowatts. It was designed to irrigate approximately 150,000 acres of farmland, with the current actual irrigation covering about 80,000 acres.
