Chongqing Nankai Middle School is one of the Nankai series of schools, a member of the Nankai Alumni Association, and one of the first batch of municipal key demonstration middle schools in Chongqing. It is also a showcase school of the city. Since its establishment, Chongqing Nankai Middle School has been renowned for its patriotism and high-quality teaching. During the Anti-Japanese War, political figures such as Zhou Enlai and Wallace visited the school multiple times, making Chongqing Nankai a paragon of basic education in China during the war period.

Founded by the patriotic educator Zhang Boling in 1936, the school was initially named ‘Chongqing Private Nanyu Middle School’. In October 1937, the school took over ‘Zigong Private Shu Guang Middle School’. In December 1938, the school was renamed ‘Chongqing Private Nankai Middle School’. In December 1952, the school transitioned from private to public. In 1953, it was renamed ‘Chongqing No. 3 Middle School’.

In May 1984, the school resumed its original name ‘Chongqing Nankai Middle School’. As of November 2012, Chongqing Nankai Middle School has two campuses (main campus and Rongqiao campus), covering an area of 291,197 square meters, with a total of 151 teaching classes, 8,787 students, and 586 faculty and staff members. In November 2017, it was awarded the title of the first National Civilized Campus.
