Nankunshan National Forest Park is located in Longmen County, Huizhou. It is very close to big cities such as Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Guangzhou, and Dongguan. It is about 97 kilometers from Guangzhou to Nankunshan and about 166 kilometers from Shenzhen to Nankunshan. The driving distance from surrounding urban areas is no more than three hours. Along the expressways everywhere, get off at the Zengcheng exit.

There are high mountains and forests on both sides of the Zengcheng section, which are very eye-catching. Therefore, it is a very suitable place for self-driving tours in Guangdong. Before reaching the gate of Nankunshan Forest Park, you will see a sign of Dafengmen Scenic Area. In fact, this is already Nankunshan. Dafengmen is a large reservoir in Nankunshan. The water quality here is very good. There are high mountains and forests all around.

There are no artificial landscapes and it is very natural. You can park your car and sit at a roadside stall to drink some mountain tofu pudding and enjoy the natural scenery. Nankunshan has more than 20 scenic spots of various sizes, such as Chuanlong Gorge, Chuanlong Waterfall, Seven Fairies Lake, Stone River Wonder, Guanyin Pool, Yixiantian, Hundred-year-old Fir King, Xianxia Waterfall, Tiantangding, etc.

The distances between some scenic spots are very far. Even if you travel by car, it is difficult to visit all the scenic spots at once. Among all the scenic spots, Guanyin Pool, Tiantangding, Stone River Wonder and Chuanlong Waterfall are the main scenic spots that ordinary tourists mainly visit. After entering from the southwest gate of the scenic area, four kilometers west of Nankunshan Town is the Guanyin Pool scenic area.

Guanyin Pool is in a mountain stream. There are three waterfalls connected in succession. Behind the water curtain of the lower waterfall, there is a white stone. It looks like Guanyin is sitting upright and quietly watching the green pool. Tourists can vaguely see this stone Guanyin through the water curtain. The name of Guanyin Pool comes from this white stone that resembles Guanyin. Of course, there is also a legend here, so I won’t go into details.

After coming out of Guanyin Pool, you come to Nankunshan Town. This is the busiest area in the entire Nankunshan. The town is not big and can be walked around in more than ten minutes. There are many small hotels and small restaurants on both sides of the street, as well as many small shops selling mountain products and specialties. The Stone River scenic area is a very beautiful place in Nankunshan.

The scenic area is about one kilometer behind the parking lot. A long river forms large and small pools one after another due to many strangely shaped boulders around. The water is green and clear and it is particularly quiet. After coming out of the Stone River scenic area and walking south, you will see a section of repaired stone steps. Following the stone steps and passing through a bamboo forest, you can see the magnificent Chuanlong Waterfall in Nankunshan.

The mountain spring emerges from a stone cave shaped like a dragon’s head and plunges down into the deep pool, which is magnificent. The three characters ‘Chuanlong Gorge’ written by calligrapher Qin Esheng are engraved on the wall. Opening hours: Open from 08:30 to 18:00 from May 1 to August 31; open from 09:00 to 17:30 from September 1 to April 30.
