The Nanmuwan Scenic Area in Youyang is located within the territory of Liangzeng Township, Youyang County, which is known as ‘the eastern gateway and screen of Chongqing and the hub between Hunan and Guizhou’. It is 300 kilometers away from the main city of Chongqing, 61 kilometers away from the 5A-level national scenic area of Youyang Peach Blossom Spring, and 19 kilometers away from the 4A-level national scenic area of Gongtan Ancient Town. The scenic area is located on the beautiful Apeng River. It has a total area of 20 square kilometers, of which the core area is 1.3 square kilometers. It is planned and laid out according to the ‘one belt and six areas’. The scenic area is characterized by the landscapes of ‘Three Lives and Three Stones’ (ecological scenery, life scenes, production beauty, and stone alleys, stone courtyards, and stone houses). The Nanmu Village where the scenic area is located has been awarded honorary titles such as ‘China’s First Village of Millennium Golden Nanmu’, ‘China’s Minority Characteristic Village’, and ‘China’s Couplet Culture Village’. For thousands of years, in this ‘golden zone’ on the 28th north latitude of the earth, it is a place suitable for the growth of nanmu. There are more than 20 ancient golden nanmu trees with a tree age of more than 1,000 years in the scenic area. Among them, 8 trees are clustered together. The largest one has a tree age of nearly 3,000 years and requires at least eight adults to hug it. It is very rare in the country and is known as the ‘king of millennium golden nanmu’. Moreover, the area under the jurisdiction of the scenic area was formerly one of the main production areas where the Youyang chieftain offered tribute to golden nanmu, a special wood for the royal family. The scenic area is composed of six major areas: the original stockade living experience area, the beautiful farming production area, the rural homestay resort area, the Bayu folk custom resort area, the new village homestay leisure area, and the jungle exploration sports area. Here, with beautiful mountains and clear waters, it is a ‘longevity zone’ suitable for human habitation. Under the towering ancient trees, people gather and live in the ‘traditional Chinese village’ – ‘original stockade’.
