Nanshan Ancient Temple

Nanshan Ancient Temple is located at the southern end of Xinchang, originally built in the Yuan Dynasty during the tenth year of the Dadu era (1306), and was initially named Changji Temple. It has been renovated and restored multiple times, and the temple originally had 38 rooms, of which only the Mahavira Hall and a row of monks’ quarters remain. Behind the temple, there are two ancient ginkgo trees over 700 years old, standing approximately 15 meters tall. Every late autumn, the golden leaves attract numerous visitors to admire the scenery. The temple complex includes facilities such as the Bell and Drum Tower, the Ksitigarbha Hall (Merit Hall), and the Abbot’s Chamber. It also features cultural exchange venues like the ‘Lay Buddhists’ Forest’ and ‘Nanshan Academy’, and hosts Buddhist events such as the ‘Lantern Festival’ and ‘Blessing Dharma Assembly’. The temple is open from 07:00 to 16:30 every day from January 1st to December 31st.
