The Nanwang Ancient Temple is located in the Xiangnan Community of the Nanshan District. According to legend, it enshrines Hou Wang, one of the twelve vassals during the Ming Dynasty, named Chen Zhongyong. He was a commoner by birth, who pleaded for the people’s welfare and rose to the rank of Grand General, eventually being ennobled as a marquis. After his death, multiple temples were built by the common folk in his honor.
