Naozhou Island, formerly known as Mang, is an island formed by volcanic eruptions at the bottom of the sea about 200,000 to 500,000 years ago. It is also a leading volcanic island in China. It is located about 40 kilometers southeast of Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. To the north is Donghai Island, to the west is Leizhou Bay. To the southeast is the South China Sea, and in the depth is the Pacific Ocean. The total area is about 56 square kilometers. Naozhou Island is one of the ‘Eight Sights of Zhanjiang’, known as ‘Ancient Charm of Naozhou’. It is an island outside the islands of Zhanjiang City. With beautiful scenery and pleasant climate all year round. There are many historical sites on the island, including Nayanhai Shitan, a famous tourist resort in southern China. There is a very ideal natural bathing beach. There is also Naozhou Lighthouse, one of the world’s three famous lighthouses on a par with the lighthouses in London and Cape of Good Hope. Historical sites include: the ruins of the Song imperial city, Xianglong Academy, Bajiao Well, Song imperial stele, Song imperial pavilion, Song imperial village, Chima Village, Dou Zhenbiao’s tomb and ‘Gongbao Square’. Open all day throughout the year.
