The Beijing Botanical Garden is located in the northwest of the urban area of Beijing, about 5 kilometers east of Fragrant Hills Park. When tourists visit the garden, they can enjoy various flower and plant species. They can also visit the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall and an ancient temple of the Tang Dynasty. Additionally, they can go hiking in Cherry Valley in the north of the garden, enjoy the wild charm, and have a very rich experience.

The botanical garden has many gates. Generally, tourists enter the garden from the south gate or the southeast gate and then tour northward along the central axis road. The garden is divided into three major parts: the plant exhibition area, the scenic and historical area, and the nature reserve. Each part has different scenery. The plant exhibition area is divided into the ornamental plant area, the arboretum, and the greenhouse area.

The ornamental plant area consists of various specialized gardens, mainly including the Rose Garden, Peach Blossom Garden, Peony Garden, Paeony Garden, Plum Garden and many other professional gardens. Among them, the Rose Garden is currently a relatively large specialized rose garden in China, where nearly a thousand rose varieties can be viewed. The Peach Blossom Garden is the specialized garden with the most peach blossom varieties in the world.

The ‘Beijing Peach Blossom Festival’ in March every year attracts many tourists to come and view. In addition, every autumn, a large area of ginkgo trees in the arboretum turns golden yellow, attracting many tourists. In the tropical plant exhibition greenhouse, typical plant landscapes under different climate zones are displayed. In the ginkgo and pine cypress area, there is also the cemetery of Liang Qichao, a famous reformer.

The scenic and historical sites in the garden mainly include the Cao Xueqin Memorial Hall in the south of the garden and the Wofo Temple in the north of the botanical garden. After entering the garden from the south gate and going northward along the central axis road, these two scenic spots can be reached. The main scenic spot in the nature reserve is Cherry Valley in the northwest of the garden, which is famous for its wild charm.

The brook in the valley is clear. Metasequoia, known as a ‘living fossil’, forms a forest here. Coming here gives a sense of tranquility in the valley and is a good place for hiking. Due to the lush trees and blooming flowers everywhere in the botanical garden, it has also become a good place for Beijing citizens to take wedding photos in recent years. The flowering periods of various flowers in the garden are different.

There is a snack bar in the scenic area, and tourists can also bring some dry food by themselves.
