The Guoyue Theatre is located in the center of Xizha. It faces Xizha Old Street in the south and Feicui Yang in the north. It is a place where the original residents of Xizha perform folk operas. Because it is built on the water, it is also known as the ‘water stage’. It is one of the few ancient stages in China that are relatively well preserved and still in use. The front and back of the stage are transparent. The caisson in the middle of the stage is even more resplendent and extremely exquisite. The theatre has a hip roof with upturned eaves and corners, which is calm and elegant. After the renovation supervised by teacher Lai Shengchuan in person, all precious wood carvings are retained. The original traditional outdoor stage is transformed into an indoor one, becoming a unique performance space for traditional operas and contemporary theaters. The audience area and the stage form one room. The front and back of the performance stage are transparent. The caisson in the middle of the stage is even more resplendent and extremely exquisite. The audience seats are divided into two parts. In the middle is a spacious open area, and on both sides are private boxes. It can accommodate about 200 to 300 people to watch the performance at the same time. The specific business hours and opening status are subject to the opening situation on that day.
