The New Great Buddha Hall was jointly initiated and constructed by the abbot of the original temple who attained enlightenment and lay Buddhist Huang Genxiang from Hong Kong. It was completed in 1994. The hall faces south, has seven bays, a width of 29.7 meters, a depth of 19.8 meters, a height of 23.32 meters, and a total construction area of 785 square meters. It is a concrete structure imitating wood. It has a double-eaved hip roof with dragon kiss ridge, a precious mirror in the middle. There is a cloister on all sides and Xikeng stone railings. It is magnificent and extraordinary, serving as the Buddha hall of the temple. In the hall, the Three Buddhas are enshrined in the center. The Sumeru pedestal is 1.9 meters high. The Buddha statues sit on a lotus throne (the throne is 2.2 meters high). The Buddha statues are 5 meters high, sitting in full lotus position with the meditation mudra. In the middle is Sakyamuni Buddha, the leader of the Saha world in the Central Region, saving countless sentient beings. On the east side is Bhaisajyaguru Vaiduryaprabhasa Tathagata, the leader of the Vaiduryanirbhasa world in the east. On the west side is Amitabha Buddha, the leader of the Western Paradise. There is a standing statue of Avalokitesvara with a thousand hands on the back. On both sides are hung the 84 ‘great compassion manifestations’ transformation pictures of Avalokitesvara. There are five couplets in the hall, all written by famous masters, such as Master Mingyang from Shanghai and Jiang Dongshu from Rushan. One of the couplets is more than 10 meters high. It was composed by the one who attained enlightenment and respectfully written by Bao Xianlun. The plaque of ‘Great Buddha Hall’ was written by Zhao Puchu. Open all year round from 06:00 to 17:00.
