Plot
This is a fictional story about the predecessors and the principal based on the school’s history, created by a younger student. In 1943, Chongqing, the wartime capital, during the Anti-Japanese War period, Chiang Kai-shek, who served as the principal of the National Central University (renamed Nanjing University in 1950), invited three renowned professors from the Chinese Department to have the New Year’s Eve dinner. This put the three professors in a dilemma: whether to go or not is a difficult choice, should they give Chairman Jiang this face? In 1967, Nanjing, the old capital, during the Cultural Revolution period. The three professors were investigated for this matter, and they had different memories of whether they were invited by Chiang Kai-shek and whether they attended Chiang Kai-shek’s banquet. Stage Design Upgrade Unlike the old version, the new ‘The Face of Chairman Jiang’ has a stage design with richer elements. During the design process, the main creative teacher referred to a large number of real street scenes from the Anti-Japanese War period, and ‘Xiuzhu Teahouse’ has become a more layered space. Nanjing University Master of Arts Troupe Established in September 2007, the Nanjing University Master of Arts Troupe is a theater art group under the guidance of the Nanjing University Drama and Film Research Institute and the Department of Drama and Film Art of the College of Liberal Arts. The Nanjing University Master of Arts Troupe integrates teaching with literature and theater creation, and its main members are past, present, and future Master of Fine Arts (MFA) students in drama and film. In February 2013, the Nanjing University Master of Arts Troupe moved out of the campus and registered in Qixia District, Nanjing, becoming a local and social young theater troupe, committed to contributing to contemporary society with more professional theater art works. The troupe’s production ‘The Face of Chairman Jiang’ was listed in the Jiangsu Province Cultural Department’s ‘Stage Art Quality Project’ in 2014.
