Located at No. 70 Quanzhou Road, the ‘Ningyuan Building’ was once the former residence of Lu Jiaxi.
This three-story Western-style building, named ‘Ningyuan Building,’ embodies the meaning of ‘peace and far-reaching.’ It is the former home of the renowned Chinese scientist and President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Lu Jiaxi.

Lu Jiaxi resided in the Ningyuan Building on Gulangyu Island until 1946 when he moved to the faculty dormitory at Xiamen University.

Perhaps it was the serene and far-reaching aura of Gulangyu Island that contributed to his illustrious career in scientific research.

The building is open all year round, with full-day access available for exterior viewing only.
