Niutou Mountain stands at an elevation of 362 meters and is considered a high peak within Tianlu Lake Forest Park. Although the mountain is not particularly tall, its relative height difference is significant, and combined with its steep slopes, deep ravines, and lush forests, it gives one the impression of vast and boundless mountains. Upon reaching the summit of Niutou Ridge, one can take in the entirety of the eastern part of Guangzhou city. The sunrise and cloud formations are especially spectacular.
Many hikers take this as their starting point for a trek to Muqiang Reservoir, a journey of 15.3 kilometers that takes approximately 5 hours. The trek is not too strenuous and is very suitable for weekend outings in the suburbs. Along the way, one encounters streams, bamboo forests, and rocky slopes, with the scenery changing constantly, offering a sense of a pristine jungle.
