The Octagonal Pavilion Library is located in front of the Macau Auditorium. It was built in 1927. The library is a two-story building and is named after its octagonal shape. The library has a green tiled roof and vermilion windows. It looks like a small Chinese pavilion and is very simple and elegant. The library has about 20,000 books in its collection and more than 90 kinds of newspapers and periodicals, mainly Chinese newspapers and periodicals. It contains bound volumes of early newspapers such as ‘Overseas Chinese News’, ‘Macau Daily’, ‘Wen Wei Po’, ‘Ta Kung Pao’, and ‘Guangming Daily’, which are very helpful for looking up materials from the 1950s to the 1970s. Opening hours: open all year round, Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00 – 12:00 and 19:00 – 21:00.
