The Old Wharf is located by the Huangpu River in Puxi, originally known as the ‘Shiliupu Wharf.’ It stretches from Wai Ma Road in the east to Zhongshan South Road in the west, from Maojia Yuan Road in the north to Xinmatou Road in the south. The riverside alleys and traditional stone-gated communities here are filled with tales of the tycoons of old Shanghai. After renovation, what were once boiler rooms, workers’ bathhouses, and dilapidated factories have now transformed into distinctive bars, themed restaurants, unique retail outlets, and creative workshops, reborn as a trendy new spot on the South Bund of Shanghai.
The Old Wharf is currently divided into two areas: the square and the creative park. The square is somewhat reminiscent of Xintiandi, with people from all over the world visible everywhere. Fortunately, the overall layout is more spacious, and there are fewer tourists and less noise. The old Shanghai charm combined with some modern, unique creative elements has made this place a popular location for many fashionable young people to take wedding photos and hold weddings, and it also attracts many photography enthusiasts who often come to capture the scenery. Creative small landscapes can be seen everywhere in the square, such as benches carved into English letters, bright red human sculptures, oversized teapots, and wooden tea tables. It is worth mentioning the fountain in the middle of the park, whose water can be drained, and the middle passage can serve as a runway, where many fashion shows have been held. The creative park section introduces creative product workshops, avant-garde artist studios, and business offices, and has attracted many distinctive creative and fashionable shops and art galleries to settle in. During the day, the Old Wharf is relatively quiet, mostly visited by tourists. You can take photos and mementos in the park, or walk along the railings by the wharf, enjoy the river breeze, and look across at the Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone. If you feel tired, you can choose an open-air café, order a cup of coffee, and savor the slow pace of life. Of course, the night view is also not to be missed. As the lights come on, you can choose restaurants with terraces like Mythos and Long House to taste delicious food while enjoying the full view of the Huangpu River, with the Oriental Pearl Tower and Jinmao Tower in full view. The food here has everything, and no matter which country it is from, it will leave you with an unforgettable taste. In the evening, if you still have energy, you can go to some small bars along the river to feel the nightlife of Shanghai. The Old Wharf is open all year round, accessible all day long. The Old Wharf
