Located at No. 38 Huangyan Road, Gulangyu Island, ‘Old Xiamen Story’ is a transformed old villa. Originally the site of a bank, it has now become a private exhibition hall. The operator is a compatriot from Taiwan named Hong Mingzhang, and most of the collections are acquired locally.
‘Old Xiamen Story’ consists of two old villas and two courtyards on the front side. The front villa has been converted into a museum that condenses hundreds of years of Xiamen’s history, including tea ceremonies, banks, academies, opera, and the list of top scholars; the rear villa has been transformed into a distinctive and antique-styled hotel; the front courtyard displays a variety of old sculptures and crafts; the side courtyard is shaded and cool, offering a tranquil environment.

The entire hall is divided into 20 smaller museums, including consulate areas, public trial courts, municipal offices, churches, schools, foreign firms, Gulangyu’s commerce, foreign residences, utensils, and the Gulangyu Celebrity Hall, each showcasing a wealth of relevant historical relics. Additionally, seven or eight historical scenes from the past have been restored. Opening hours are from 8:00 to 18:00, with no entry after 18:00.
