The stadium of the National Olympic Sports Center is a large-scale venue built by China to welcome the Asian Games. It was constructed in 1989. At that time, the venue area was approximately 20,000 square meters and could accommodate about 18,000 spectators. Ancillary facilities include 1 track and field practice field (plastic runway), 1 softball field, 3 football practice fields, 4 tennis courts, and 1 check-in office. The Olympic Sports Center Stadium undertakes the equestrian and running competitions of the modern pentathlon in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. For the smooth holding of Olympic events, the Olympic Sports Center Stadium has been expanded. After the expansion, the total construction area is approximately 370,000 square meters and can accommodate about 40,000 spectators.
