The Overseas Chinese Museum is a distinctive multi-eave building with a rich Chinese ethnic style, perfect for capturing memorable photographs.
Inside, it houses over seven thousand exhibits, including cultural relics, crafts, and specimens donated by overseas Chinese and returned overseas Chinese, as well as personal collections of Mr. Tan Kah Kee.

The collection spans from Shang and Zhou dynasties’ bronze ware to modern calligraphy and paintings, with each piece being a fine example of its kind.

Located on the west side of Siming South Road, adjacent to Xiamen University and Nanputuo Temple, the museum is easily accessible.

If you plan to visit Xiamen University and Nanputuo Temple, consider adding this museum to your itinerary.

It was initiated by the renowned overseas Chinese figure Mr. Tan Kah Kee and funded by contributions from overseas Chinese and returned overseas Chinese, reflecting their patriotic spirit and earning the museum the title of ‘A Unique Overseas Chinese Historical Museum in the World’.

The museum grounds are lush with greenery, and a large stone inscribed with ‘Never Forget Your Homeland’ is prominently placed facing the main entrance.

Further in, the main building of the museum, constructed from white granite, exudes an antique charm and grandeur.

The first and second floors host the permanent exhibition ‘Overseas Chinese’, while the third floor is dedicated to the ‘Tan Kah Kee’s Cultural Relics Exhibition’.

The side building on the second floor features the ‘Natural Museum’.

The museum also hosts thematic exhibitions periodically.

‘Overseas Chinese’ is based on the museum’s collection of overseas Chinese historical materials and new research findings, recounting the journey of overseas Chinese stepping out of the country and into the world.

‘Tan Kah Kee’s Cultural Relics Exhibition’ showcases Mr. Tan Kah Kee’s treasured cultural relics, including bronze ware, ceramics, and calligraphy paintings.

‘Natural Museum’ simulates natural ecological environments with over 150 bird and mammal specimens scattered in their suitable habitats, raising awareness for wildlife and environmental protection.

Opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 to 17:30, and Saturday to Sunday from 08:30 to 18:30; the museum is closed on Mondays.

Service facilities include luggage storage, stroller rental, and wheelchair rental.
